Mile High District Education Series: Physical Therapy Management of the Dance Athlete
When: Tuesday, April 30, 2024 | 8:00pm - 9:00pm MT Location: Virtual Via Zoom Approved for 1.0 CEU This course will discuss rehabilitation of dancers with application to a variety of performing artists and flexibility athletes. Content will include epidemiology of injuries in dance and the unique demands and movements found in dance and other flexibility sports, and ways to include these in an examination. The course will then describe key treatment techniques including how to address the return to sport phase for these athletes. Speaker: Allie Nabers PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, Advanced Dry Needling Certified, SFMA Allie graduated from Northeastern University in 2011 and practiced for 5 years in Boston with a focus on pediatric and adolescent athletes’ sports injuries and concussion. She joined Steadman in 2016 and cofounded the performing arts program and the PT research group, continuing to lead both. She has been an investigator in several research studies to date, with recent work being accepted at ISHA 2023. Allie has been a company PT for the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company and works closely with the CO Ballet. She is a mentor in the orthopedic residency program and has a passion for teaching and academics at all levels. Allie’s career has been focused on treatment of flexibility athletes/performing artists, adolescent athletes, and post-operative rehabilitation particularly of the hip and knee. Manual Therapy Interventions for the Physical Therapist Assistant – Cervicothoracic & Upper Quarter
Manual therapy is an integral part of a physical therapist assistant’s practice. This course will provide a fundamental foundation on manual therapy in addition to the current guidelines and recommendations for the PTA. Course content will explore different mobilization with movement, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, neurodynamic, and soft tissue techniques as they relate to the cervicothoracic region and the upper quarter. This lab course will be designed to maximize hands-on practice with short lectures and group discussion. During the lab, participants will have expert supervision and guidance from Fellows of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and other therapists with advanced training in manual therapy. Course Objectives: Understand the mechanisms of manual therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction Understand current allowances of manual interventions for the PTA under CO statute Develop hands on skills for: Mobilization with movement Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation techniques Neurodynamic mobilization Soft tissue mobilization Advance your practice as the primary assistant in the delivery of physical therapy service

Description: Selective manual therapy techniques are an integral part of a physical therapist assistant’s collaborative scope of work. This is the first of a two-part PTA course series and will provide a fundamental foundation on specified manual therapy in addition to the current guidelines and recommendations for the PTA. Day 1 will explore different passive and active osteokinematic mobilizations and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques (PNF) as they relate to the cervicothoracic region and the upper quarter. Day 2 will cover neurodynamic mobilization, advanced soft tissue mobilization and stretching techniques. This lab course will be designed to maximize hands-on practice with short lectures and group discussion. Cases will be presented to promote understanding of how and when these techniques are utilized in practice.During the lab, participants will have expert supervision and guidance from multiple Fellows of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and active clinicians.
